The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel may have a new feature we might not all like, that’s at least according to a development update.
Despite failing to initially live up to its lofty expectations, not to mention being a colossal mess at launch in 2020, CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 is now widely considered to be one of the best sci-fi RPGs of all time.
Following its messy launch, CD Projekt RED has worked tirelessly to not only fix Cyberpunk 2077 but, over the years (and very recently), has benefited from loads of content updates that have not only made quality of life improvements but have also added a ton of new features.
When Is Cyberpunk 2077's Sequel Coming?
With all the support that Cyberpunk 2077 continues to receive from CDPR, it’s not out of the question that the sci-fi RPG has exceeded many fans' expectations on what was promised long before its launch roughly five years ago.
Some of its best content updates arrived around the same time as its highly anticipated expansion, Phantom Liberty, which launched for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 20 September 2023.

In our review of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, GAMINGbible’s Ewan said: “It fills me with joy to be able to report that this is a deeply ambitious expansion that fires on all cylinders and never delivers anything less than a stellar experience.”
Phantom Liberty was not the only major piece of additional content that Cyberpunk 2077 was set to receive because there were plans to add a multiplayer mode. Those plans were canned so that CDPR could put all focus into fixing the game, a decision that worked out for the best.
Yet, as reported by TweakTown, the cancelled multiplayer mode might not be completely dead, with rumours circulating that it could return in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, that’s at least as suggested in a recent job listing at CDPR.
The job listing in question is for a lead network engineer, located in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, as well as remotely.

A section of the job description reads “You will lead and manage a team of talented engineers, working collaboratively to ensure seamless and robust online systems.”
The would-be applicant will also be responsible for helping to “Design, implement, and maintain scalable and efficient network architectures for online features.”
It’s perhaps worth keeping in mind that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel wasn't mentioned in the job description, nor was The Witcher 4. However, it does feel like the next Cyberpunk game would be a more suited fit.
What this online component is, remains to be seen. I’m not sure how the Cyberpunk community would feel about the sequel having a competitive multiplayer mode. For me, I wouldn't be against a co-op campaign.
