Rumours are making the rounds that CD Projekt RED may be reviving the cancelled multiplayer aspects of Cyberpunk 2077 in the game's sequel.

Despite its catastrophic launch in 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Cyberpunk 2077 eventually became one of the best and most beloved sci-fi RPGs of this generation. Well, at least when the free new-gen update arrived.

Initially, CD Projekt RED had plans to release a multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077. However, as a result of its aforementioned launch woes, it was ditched so that the developers could focus on fixing the game and finessing its expansion, Phantom Liberty.

That being said, judging by a recent job listing, it looks like the Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mode is still on the cards, at least with its upcoming sequel, which is codenamed Project Orion until its official title is determined.

“The sequel of Cyberpunk 2077 to feature multiplayer elements,” tweeted RinoTheBouncer. “The information comes from job postings asking for a candidate capable of working on systems compatible with both solo and multiplayer modes. W or L?”

“It makes sense, the original plan was to have multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2077, but that was dropped to fix the game,” replied mcdizzle17.

“I don't want to say L, but I don't really want it either. Definitely don't want a repeat in the style of Fallout 76,” said BurningEarth2.

“Depends. If it's not something that forces you to play online and/or look for friends to play with, I might be ok with it,” explains 42justaweirdo. “I like the Dark Souls/Death Stranding type of online gameplay, but Ghost of Tsushima was pretty good too.”

“I miss the solid B-level multiplayer modes in primarily single-player games such as Uncharted and The Last of Us. Many memories in those games,” exclaimed RsnblAssurance. So do I, RsnblAssurance, so do I.

We’ll just have to wait and see if CD Projekt RED can get the multiplayer right next time in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
