Cyberpunk 2077's latest update is broken on one console

Technically, I guess this means it's actually broken on two consoles

Cyberpunk 2077’s latest official update is barely a week old, yet, following a very thorough technical analysis of its performance on all platforms, it seems we can confirm that it’s not functioning properly on at least one system (technically two systems, if you want to split hairs).

Around about this time last week, Cyberpunk 2077’s long-awaited Update 2.3 dropped on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X consoles.

For the most part, fans seem pretty happy with CD Projekt RED’s work. There are reports of the new auto-drive mechanic not working properly, but otherwise it sounds like it's been well received.

Unfortunately, it seems that a different addition introduced in Update 2.3 isn’t functioning at all on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles… and it’s probably the most important thing they added in the whole update.

As detailed in a report by Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter over on Eurogamer, the new VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support added in the update has allowed PS5 owners to “potentially” hit a frame rate of “up to 120 frames per second”.

And yet, even though the same VRR support was included in the Xbox Series S/X update for Cyberpunk 2077, Leadbetter notes that it just doesn’t seem to make a difference on Xbox systems and “needs a fix”.

“On Series X, the lack of any difference to standard play does stick out - according to my LG CX OLED display, the console is outputting a VRR signal, but the refresh sticks to 118Hz - something that happens when VRR is not operating correctly”, Leadbetter noted in his report.

“RT mode still runs at 30fps, performance mode at a capped 60fps - unless there's something specifically wrong with my set-up, Xbox VRR needs a fix.”

Trust me when I say that if Richard Leadbetter is saying this, it’s definitely true. There’s no other journalist in the industry I’d trust more when it comes to these sorts of technical analyses.

VRR support was, in my opinion, the most exciting part of Update 2.3 (well, if you play on consoles anyway).

Hopefully CD Projekt RED can put out some kind of hotfix pretty soon to rectify this issue, because Xbox owners will notice the difference once it's properly implemented.
