Cyberpunk 2077 New Horror Spinoff Has Gamers Losing Their Minds

Cyberpunk 2077 slasher horror? Sign me up!

I'm a simple man. If you approach me with the pitch: "Cyberpunk 2077 but make it slasher horror", I'll tell you I'm all in. I won't even ask how you got into my house.

If you can't get enough of Cyberpunk 2077, with all its secret and dangers, you'll probably want to pay attention to this new horror spinoff, which is set to release January 2026.

Coming from Dark Horse Comics, Cyberpunk: Chrome is a full on slasher horror in which "a group of friends out on a photoshoot at a landfill finds our that there are things far more frightening than ghosts in Night City."

Writer Doug Wagner (Plastic, Plush) has teamed up with artist Tommaso Bennato (Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher: The Edge of the World) and reunites with colorist Rico Renzi (Plush, Sea of Stars), along with long-time Cyberpunk 2077 letterer Frank Cvetkovic (Cyberpunk 2077: Psycho Squad, Tramps of the Apocalypse), for the new book.

"I’ve always been a massive Cyberpunk fan,” Wagner told Dark Horse. “And getting to dive into Cyberpunk 2077 with Tommaso, Rico, and Frank while being allowed to unleash my twisted, quirky sense of horror to it all is a dream come true. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve got in store."

Needless to say, gamers desperate for more Night City while we wait for the sequel are pretty excited at the prospect of this gory spinoff.

"Awesome, been reading through all the other comics lately, excited for more," one fan writes on Reddit.

Another adds: "Looks great. Night City is such a great setting to tell cool and varied stories in all kinds of genres."

"Pretty much all of the comics have been dope so I’m excited for this one," a third adds.

The idea of full on horror in the Cyberpunk world is such a winner that I'd be disappointed if it started and ended with this limited series. Imagine a full-on horror game where you've got to survive against killers afflicted with cyberpsychosis, or a journey into the virtual reality world gone horribly wrong.

For now, we'll just have to look forward to Cyberpunk: Chrome in January and hope it sparks off some more hunger for horror in Night City.
