It’s always exciting when devs from different studios come together to create something new. A meeting of minds that could create something brilliant.

That’s what’s happened with Antistatic, a new studio from devs behind games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and BioShock. Industry vets have established the studio while announcing they are working on a post-nuclear shooter filled with supernatural leanings called Hornet.

Cyberpunk 2077 recently saw a huge jump in popularity after its DLC release.

Members of the new venture include Lukasz Ludkowski (writers’ room lead on Cyberpunk 2077, story for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners), Kris Teper (lead environment artist on BioShock series, environment artist on Borderlands series), Maciej Miksztal (co-founder of Starward Industries, co-founder of Far From Home), Michal Koltun (gameplay programmer on Conan Exiles), and Gabriel Nordholm (community manager on Project Winter).

Footage of Hornet from the studio website shows soldiers venturing into worlds beyond ours, perhaps inspired by media like Twin Peaks as we see rooms draped in red curtains with supernatural beings causing havoc. It’s grainy, blurred footage by design and it creates a delicious sense of dread.

According to the Antistatic website the team hopes to “create dark, atmospheric co-op games fuelled by emergent gameplay and immersive sim design philosophy, where possibilities extend beyond the conventions of traditional video games.” Being an independent team, the designers and creators can hopefully put together something extraordinary.

As they say, “We are not chained by a complicated corporate structure; we are a group of highly passionate game developers who want to do what they love in a space that empowers them.” This means we could see unique design choices not held back by the visions of a triple-A board of directors. One thing is for certain, the team is filled with amazing talent and you can only imagine what the writer’s room and early design storyboards would look like. If the early footage of Hornet is anything to go by, Antistatic will be turning some heads.
