Cyberpunk 2077’s brand new BattleX mod is surprisingly brutal, and it might be a good one for those who enjoy the game’s combat.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most popular RPGs of the last few years, and a large part of that has been down to its excellent gameplay and combat that CD Projekt Red crafted.

In case you fancied making it all the more brutal, however, a new mod that ups the gore and blood effects might just be what you need.

Weapons - Battle Axe - BattleX is the latest in a long line of weapon mods that does exactly this, adding a badass Viking-style axe for V to use in Night City.

“Free your inner Viking and cleave apart your foes with a weapon that puny milkdrinkers can't even lift. WITH EXTRA DISMEMBERMENT - for gore and glory,” reads the description for the mod, which has been developed by Cyberpunk 2077 modders manavortex and DarthMops.

The extra dismemberment is achieved by utilising Cyberpunk 2077’s stock grenade explosions and limb removal features, meaning the result is fairly polished.

Here’s a video demonstrating the battle axe in action, which you can download now from Nexus Mods.

The modding team has released various similar mods in the past, including High Frequency Blade which performs clean cuts on enemies, and the Power Sword from Warhammer 40k, which includes electrical status effects.

Outside of weapons, manavortex has also released mods for other aspects of the game, including a sleeping mask for V, a makeover for Misty based on her Phantom Liberty drip, and some in-universe converse shoes which feel lore-friendly.

If you’d like to enhance your Cyberpunk 2077 experience further with more gory effects, you can also check out the GoreRunner mod which we covered last month.

GoreRunner essentially introduces loads of new gore and gibbing effects to the game, bringing it more in line with the violence effects as seen in the spin-off TV show, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

As described by the mod’s creator Cazanu, GoreRunner includes “exploding heads, flying chunks of brain, meat, bones, intestines, livers, kidneys — enemies torn apart by grenades, shotguns, or katanas,” as well as “more exposed ribs, brutal headshot flaps, and deeper wound detail.”

The mod also includes a dynamic blood splatter system, which was built from scratch by Cazanu with over 70 new splatters. These effects have been randomised according to weapon type, direction, and hit location.
