Captain Marvel was a big deal. Released back in 2019, the film was the first female-led entry to be released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was also the first female-led superhero movie ever to pass the billion-dollar mark at the box office. The film was praised by critics but some "fans" weren’t quite so embracing. Captain Marvel was review-bombed and lead actress Brie Larson was subjected to plenty of toxic trolling and hate.
Thankfully though, Marvel are moving ahead with sequel The Marvels which is set to release next year. Rejoice my fellow Carol fans. Now, Larson has touched upon whether Carol Danvers is likely to turn up in the MCU again.
Speaking of Marvel, check out the brand new trailer for Secret Invasion which is coming soon to Disney Plus.
At this weekend’s D23 Expo, Larson was asked by Variety how long she expects to play Captain Marvel. Larson responded, “I don’t know. Does anyone want me to do it again?” The interviewer jokes, “Don’t be so modest,” to which Larson added, “I really don’t know. I don’t have an answer to that.”
The answer certainly appeared to throw shade at those who have targeted Larson and Captain Marvel with misogynistic hate. It’s something that Larson has always responded to with intense sarcasm, earning the respect of fans, but riling up trolls in the process.
Advert
The truth is, even if Larson did know about a third Captain Marvel film, she wouldn’t be able to say anything. Given just how powerful Carol Danvers is, I’d be surprised if she didn’t play a role in the Phase Six Avengers films. Personally, I adore Brie and Captain Marvel, so I’m all for more - and I know I’m not alone.
