The internet’s sweetheart and everyone’s favourite 90s movie crush, Brendan Fraser, has been seeing a massive career comeback lately. As well as generally just taking over social media thanks to fans constantly sharing their love for the actor, Fraser is set to take on the main role in the upcoming psychological drama film, The Whale.
The film, which is being directed by Darren Aronofsky and written by Samuel D. Hunter, follows the story of Charlie (Brendan Fraser), a 600-pound middle-aged man who’s become a social recluse, following years of binge-eating as a result of the guilt he felt for leaving his family behind in order to be with his gay lover (thanks, Screen Rant). In the movie, Charlie tries to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink).
Just in case you thought Brendan Fraser couldn't get any sweeter, take a look at the video below to see him get emotional over a fan's question during a Q&A.
As reported by Screen Rant, The Whale is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival (which runs from 31 August to 10 September), but a first look at Fraser in the movie has just been revealed, and he’s almost unrecognisable. Unfortunately, we still don’t have a trailer to look at, so this still frame is the only thing we have to judge the film by, but the premise is sounding promising, and the casting even more so.
Last month, Sadie Sink (best known for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things) revealed that working with Fraser on the movie has been an amazing experience: “I don’t think I’d ever done a project that had that much character work,” she said at the time. “Darren Aronofsky is obviously brilliant, and working with him was a really formative experience, and Brendan is so incredible in it, and also just probably my favourite human on the planet. It was so amazing having that experience with him. I learned a lot about myself as an actress, and tapped into a side of things that I hadn’t really explored before.”
