Breaking news that’s sure to upset every single 40+ year old man in the West: they’re making a new Rambo movie, and it’s going to star a young heartthrob.

Rambo is a strange series of movies. The first film, First Blood, is a contemplative critique of both the Vietnam war, and the treatment of veterans post-warfare. It’s a great movie. It’s also nothing like the other entries in the franchise.

After First Blood, the Rambo franchise just focuses on the action, and I’m not the first to tell you that it’s kind of a weird tonal shift. Most people who have never seen a Rambo film probably assume that every film in the franchise just features Sylvester Stallone mowing down people with machine guns.

Well, the next Rambo film won’t feature that at least… because Stallone is being replaced with To All the Boys I've Loved Before star Noah Centineo.

This news comes via Deadline's Justin Kroll, who revealed that the film is set to shoot in 2026 in Thailand, helmed by Sisu director Jalmari Helander.

According to Kroll, the movie will be a prequel– although, considering the Rambo films post-First Blood are all technically prequels, I’m not entirely sure what that will entail.

I know the knee-jerk reaction from certain folks will be to whine and moan about how they’re going to make Rambo “woke” or whatever, but I want to stress a couple of points to those people.

Firstly, Rambo always was “woke”. It may pain you to hear that, but First Blood was a critique of senseless war, not an endorsement of it.

Secondly, you should probably watch Sisu if you actually believe that. Whatever you think of the casting behind the film, Helander is a great pick for something like this. I think there’s a strong chance that this will end up being good, but it sounds like we’ll be waiting until 2027 at the earliest to find out.
