MCU's OG Captain America Officially Returning With a Big Twist

Steve Rogers, the original and beloved Captain America in the MCU, officially passed the torch (and shield) following the events of Avengers: Endgame, and so it would have been fair to assume that would be the very last we would see of him.

While Anthony Mackie's rendition of Cap' is here to stay, Steve Rogers hasn't been entirely sent out to live in the weeds, and the character will be returning to screens a little sooner than you might expect.

As first reported by The Direct, Steve Rogers' Captain America is set to appear later this year in the four-part miniseries Marvel Zombies. This comes after the success of What If... Zombies?! which first introduced the concept to viewers over on Disney+.

The news comes by way of Funko Pop, who have released a new range of figures designed to show off the characters in the upcoming show. It's bad news for Rogers though, as his signature look is marred somewhat by the fact that he now counts himself amongst the flesh-eating zombie hordes.

Again, viewers of the What If episode would have already seen Steve in this new form (along with a couple more of the original Avengers), as they set out to consume as much human flesh as possible.

The new series will follow a new set of Avengers (including Spider-Man and Shang Chi) as they set out to take on the zombies and their kin in a monumental battle. Don't worry about the overall health of the MCU though, because all of this takes place on the alternate reality Earth-2149.

Marvel Zombies is set to release later this year, debuting on October 8 on Disney+. If you're looking to get your hands on the zombie Steve Rogers Funk Pop, that doesn't have a release date yet, but it should arrive around the same time as the show.
