The future of the DCEU is … messy. There are a few possible gems on the horizon like Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods but for the most part, it seems like DC have lost their way. Both The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are plagued with controversy.
The Flash star Ezra Miller has several ongoing legal struggles, as the actor faces allegations of grooming and harassment, whilst Aquaman actress Amber Heard recently hit the headlines after losing her libel trial to Johnny Depp. DC are yet to submit to fan demand to recast their roles, but we do now know that one DC favourite is set to make a return.
Check out the trailer for Black Adam below, ahead of the film’s 21 October release.
Ben Affleck’s Batman will officially return to the DCEU in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The news came from Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, who took to Instagram to announce Affleck’s return. The actor shared several photos of the duo together alongside the caption, “Reunited Bruce and Arthur. Love u and miss u Ben. WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. Busted on set. All great things coming Aquaman 2. All my aloha.”

As you might’ve guessed from that caption, Affleck’s appearance in the film isn’t exactly the secret it was supposed to be. Presumably, it would’ve been kept under wraps but as shown in a clip by Momoa, a truckload of tourists were accidentally driven past Ben Affleck’s trailer during filming. Whoops.
We already knew that Affleck was set to star in The Flash but given his role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it sure does seem like DC aren’t willing to let Batfleck go. DC’s plan is slightly confusing given how many Batman related projects they’re churning out. Earlier this year, Robert Pattinson made his Batman debut in The Batman to rave reviews, and whilst it may not star Bruce Wayne, we’ve also got Joker: Folie à Deux on the way. I hope you’re not tired of Gotham yet?
