Batman fans could have reason to get very hyped as it seems new Caped Crusader video games are on the way as confirmed by Warner Bros.

The most recent game inspired by the Dark Knight to be released is the VR game for Meta Quest, Batman: Arkham Shadow developed by Camouflaj and not series veterans, Rocksteady Studios.

By most accounts, Batman: Arkham Shadows has been met with rave reviews and is the game of many fans' dreams with a Metacritic score of 85 from critics and 90 from users. However, with this being a VR exclusive, there will be a lot of gamers who might not ever get to play this game.

Of course, Rocksteady Studios’ most recent game is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a live-service multiplayer game that was only released in February 2024 but already it seems to be on life support.

Ironically, some fans have speculated that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could be the end of Rocksteady Studios, but that seems a bit far-fetched at this stage, especially when there seem to be more Batman Arkham games on the way.

Before its release, Warner Bros. and Rocksteady Studios labelled Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as being set in the Arkhamverse and perhaps that is true. But I can’t help but think it was just a tactic to lure in fans under a false pretence.

As reported by Comicbook.com (via Insider Gaming), during a recent investor call, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav says that WB Games plans to shift its focus on some of its biggest video game properties.

Franchises such as Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat and even Game of Thrones were mentioned but so too were DC properties such as Batman. No specifics were mentioned on what kind of Batman games we’ll be getting or who will be developing them.

We could end up getting more VR games or maybe WB Games Montréal might develop a new Arkham game, who had previously developed Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights.

However, I really hope that Rocksteady Studios gets another crack at Catwomen’s whip with the Arkham series because it would be a damn shame if Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the hill that it dies on.
