Three years on from the release of the series’ third film, it’s been confirmed that Bad Boys 4 is in pre-production, and Will Smith will be reprising his role.
As IGN reports, in a video posted to Instagram, Smith and his co-star Martin Lawrence revealed the news, shouting: “It’s official! Bad Boys 4 life, baby!” Lawrence then pointed out how confusing it is that the third movie was called Bad Boys for Life when that wasn’t the fourth instalment, to which Smith replied: “We shouldn’t have called it that.”

Additionally, it’s been confirmed that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will be returning as the fourth film’s directors, and the script is being written by Chris Bremner. By all accounts, it certainly sounds like it’s shaping up to be everything the fans want.
Last year, after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, it was rumoured that work on Bad Boys 4 could be halted. However, the CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, Tom Rothman, confirmed that everything was still going ahead as planned.

“That was inaccurate,” Rothman said of the rumour. “That movie’s been in development and still is. There weren’t any brakes to pump because the car wasn’t moving.
“That was a very unfortunate thing that happened, and I don’t think it’s really my place to comment, except to say that I’ve known Will Smith for many years, and I know him to be a good person,” he continued. “That was an example of a very good person having a very bad moment, in front of the world. I believe his apology and regret is genuine, and I believe in forgiveness and redemption.”
Unfortunately, no release window has been given for Bad Boys 4, so we could be waiting some time for it yet. The important thing is that it’s happening, though - it’s all to look forward to.
