Assassin’s Creed players are roasting the latest DLC expansion for its goofy visuals and over-the-top premise.
To be fair, the Assassin’s Creed series hasn’t been grounded for quite some time, at least not in the way games like Ghost Of Yōtei are.
The latest instalments have explored the weirder side of the franchise delving deep into things like mythology, aliens and even time-travel (the Animus doesn’t count).
Assassin’s Creed Shadows has jumped the shark completely though with its new collaboration with Attack on Titan, which does more than add some swanky new cosmetics to the game, it adds the anime’s horrifying antagonists as well.

Gameplay footage of the limited-time quest has been doing the rounds online which sees players flee from a pursuing titan.

While being a neat collaboration, fans are surprisingly disgusted with the DLC, with some describing it as “peak slop in its purest form".
Other gamers have reacted similarly with some replying to the footage saying, “If this leaked on the internet with no context, I would've thought this was AI slop.”

Another added, “I would rather pay them to delete this. Pls Ubisoft, just take the L and stop destroying the franchise with sloppy content.”
It’s a shame people are reacting this way because Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been doing quite well. When it was first announced and the protagonists were revealed, it got a lot of hate from certain corners of the internet but has since gone on to sell quite well.
Even though the DLC expansions haven’t been world-class, they have been free, so at least there’s that.
Do Gamers Want More Grounded Games?
When I look at gamers slating Assassin’s Creed Shadows for adding a titan chase sequence, and those same gamers praising Ghost Of Yōtei for its grounded world-design, I can’t help but wonder if the latter is where future games should be leaning.

Another good example is Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, another series that used to be the king in its respective genre but has been picked apart by the masses for trying to do something different than what made it popular in the first place.
While sales figures are yet to be be shared, there’s a good chance Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be outperformed by Battlefield 6, a more grounded shooter, the first time in a long time a Call Of Duty game has been beaten by a direct competitor.
Do we need less collaborations like Assassin’s Creed x Attack on Titan, and more realism, or just better quality control?
