It’s always interesting to see how a beloved video game once started life during its early phase of development before its big release, and the Assassin’s Creed series is no exception.

Depending on who you ask, each fan will likely give you a different answer to what is the best game in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series. However, the chances are that the Ezio trilogy and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag may be among the top contenders from fans.

Check out the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag trailer below!

“The year is 1715. Pirates rule the Caribbean and have established their own lawless Republic where corruption, greediness and cruelty are commonplace. Among these outlaws is a brash young and selfish Welsh captain named Edward Kenway. Kenway joins with Blackbeard and other legends of the sea to become the bane of Templars and the enemy of empires,” reads the synopsis of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Between the original Assassin’s Creed of 2007 and Black Flag in 2013, other than being larger in scale as well as gameplay tweaks and additions, the series never changed all that much. That was until the series entered the “RPG era” in 2017 with Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Being the follow-up to Assassin’s Creed III, it makes sense for Black Flag to borrow much of its assets, especially when only a year separates each release. In fact, ACIII was the game that introduced naval combat which was enhanced greatly in ACIV. So with that in mind, Twitter user Synth Potato has shared an interesting gameplay clip from the early development of ACIV.

“Here's something a little interesting: Pre-Alpha gameplay of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag from early development, back when it was called 'AC Golden Age'. It still used ACIII's animations and HUD at this point in development. Always love seeing early footage of games,” they tweeted.

“I always love seeing this stuff too. I was watching videos not long ago nonstop about the betas and alphas of the GTA games and hearing about what changed compared to the final game,” replied HorrorFanSky. “Still better than Skull and Bones,” said T4H4_JR.
