So many games were announced at the 2025 Game Awards that it was genuinely difficult to keep track at one point, as major franchises reemerged to bring us some brand new and very exciting offerings.
Star Wars fans had a particularly good evening this time around, getting two new games in major narrative release Fate of the Old Republic and genuinely exciting pod racer in Galactic Racer.
Tomb Raider also entered with a massive bang, as developer Crystal Dynamics confirmed that, not only are we getting a grand new adventure set in that world in 2027, but we're also getting a reimagining of the original release next year, which marks thirty years since its original release.
Whilst we absolutely got plenty of bang for our buck, one noticeably conspicuous absence was the long-rumoured, and basically confirmed at this point, remake of beloved pirate adventure Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

You could be totally forgiven for having a little panic that something has gone disastrously wrong during the resurrection of Edward Kenway, but there really is no need to worry on this occasion.

The Remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is Coming
The absence of Black Flag from The Game Awards ceremony was certainly a conspicuous one, and I'll admit that I was absolutely expecting to see it in some form before the lights went out for the final time.
Posts on social media were quick to react to its absence, with many worrying that it somehow means that the game isn't on the way, now that it hasn't been confirmed at arguably gaming's biggest event.
There really isn't any reason to panic though, as all signs still point to Ubisoft releasing a remake for the game, even if we don't get a lot of warning about it.
We know that PEGI has now rated a new game known only as Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced, and I'll eat my proverbial hat if it isn't exactly the game we are all expecting.
Equally, there are some major shows coming up at the start of next year, including an Xbox Developer Direct Showcase that they claim will include "a lot" of new game releases.
In the meantime, you scurvy land lubbers are just going to have to sit tight and wait for the new version to drop. Or go back and play the original, as it still holds up very well.
