Skyrim's Last Major Update Leaves Gamers Fuming

Fus Roh Dah forever and always

There are so many versions of Skyrim at this point that it has become a bit of a meme in the online space, particularly whilst The Elder Scrolls 6 remains seemingly so far off and mysterious.

From the Legendary Edition to the Special Edition, it can be difficult to even know which is the best one to buy if you're thinking about jumping on in 2025.

The most recent version of the game is actually the Skyrim: Anniversary Edition, which released back in 2021 to celebrate the game's 10th birthday. It bundles together everything from the Special Edition with a full suite of Creation Club content released at the time of the Anniversary Edition's launch, including new quests, armour, locations and gameplay modes.

In a post over on Reddit, one user shared their purchase of the Anniversary Edition some four years after that released and some 14 years since the original game dropped. They did so with the simple lament, "Finally bought the upgrade and I hate myself."

The comments were predicatbly unsympathetic, with one saying, "You can never win against Todd. You will buy Skyrim and you will like it."

Another added more misery, saying, "Skyrim: Anniversary Edition - the only active downgrade that you have to pay for. It still shocks me that Bethesda finally got the community to accept paid mods simply by selling them Skyrim again."

Others were more positive and tried to bring some joy to the OP by sharing their experiences with the Anniversary Edition. "Me too a few weeks ago, I was like what is this house - it’s amazing! Actually being able to display all the masks etc. I also really like the spell knight armour, and there was whole new quest lines," one enthusiastic commenter said.

In any case, Skyrim is such a good game that it's difficult to be annoyed at someone who can't resist diving back in. If the Anniversary Edition is their way of doing that, then who are we to judge (at least until TES6 comes out).
