The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has more secret locations than you probably think. Most of these locations yield interesting lore, rewards, or are just generally cool places to see on your travels.
Some Skyrim locations house all of the above though, and are well-worth the trip if you’re looking for something truly special. Introducing Frostflow Lighthouse found near the in-game coastline.
A Reddit thread by user etroreverieX described it as “the one place I wish I never found.” They went on to explain that originally it was believed to be “a quiet place to rest. Instead, I walked into a nightmare—blood everywhere, and the bodies of a whole family left behind.”
Apparently while exploring the lighthouse a ghost will appear right up to the camera, prompting the player to make a swift exit from the premises.

I’ve never visited it during my playthrough but it sounds pretty morbid so I’m a big fan. I’d imagine whichever Bethesda developers are responsible for it have had a good few chuckles over it too, especially seeing player reactions to their work.
One of the comments said the lighthouse was “The only place in all of Skyrim that genuinely scares me. Apocrypha is creepy and makes me feel uneasy but it is not scary. Frostflow, on the other hand, terrifies me and the sounds make it worse.”
Another said they actually quite enjoyed the experience, saying “It was very dark by Skyrim standards but you do get some vengeance and provide some peace at the end. Plus a pretty cool passive buff if you do the thing. Won’t spoil more than that.”
So if you’ve never been to the lighthouse at least you know it exists now. It’ll be waiting for you in your next playthrough atop a mountain near the game’s Northern coast.
