Though the early Harry Potter movie tie-in games were genuinely great fun for their own time, few would argue that Hogwarts Legacy is the best version of the wizarding world available to players in 2025.
Sure, it doesn't feature the feature the chosen one himself, with the game's story set a little over a century before he makes his way to the school for the first time, but the aesthetic, spells and dynamics are all instantly recognisable to fans of the books and films.
Despite the impressive efforts of Portkey Games et. Al, there are a few major drawbacks that stop it from being one of the best releases in recent years for many. The most obvious example of that is the lack of multiplayer support in any capacity, whether that be via co-op campaign or instanced game modes to play with friends.
So much so that the community has started to come together to do something about it themselves, with no further plans for official updates from the developer.

Specifically, the mod HogWarp dropped its first Alpha version back in 2023, offering the very beginnings of a framework that would allow others to craft their own bespoke multiplayer experiences, assuming they have the modding wherewithal.
The mod is designed to deliver on a broad set of base features that can then be adapted, and the progress they have made since first launching has been mightily impressive.
One of the coolest individual features is the spell sync, as demonstrated over on YouTube, which shows how more than one character is able to cast a spell at almost exactly the same time. This was one of the most significant hurdles to overcome, thanks to the base game's inability to decipher two simultaneous commands from different players (as it was never designed to do that in the first place).
The team behind the mod is already very well known in the communities of several games, where they have already completed similar projects designed to turn otherwise single-player games into multiplayer experiences.

Though their traditional stomping grounds have historically been Bethesda releases, where they released Fallout Together and Skyrim Together, this latest mod is set to apply their experience in a whole new world.
The mod is currently in its beta phase, with the 0.8.0 version now available to download and install, if you're tired of exploring the world of Hogwarts Legacy on your lonesome.
