Outside of GTA VI, Ananta is probably one of the most heavily talked about games in the world right now, and the reasons for that are as layered as the game itself.
If you've somehow missed all the chatter around it, Ananta is an upcoming open-world RPG from Chinese developer Naked Rain and Publisher NetEase, that is drawing attention for a lot of the features they have chosen to include in the game.
Before we get to all of that, the premise, as described by the developer, sees players, "Take on the role of an elite Agent within the A.C.D. (Anti-Chaos Directorate) embarking on an exhilarating adventure through a world that breaks all the rules. Meet a variety of interesting characters, jump into exciting combat, solve challenges and safeguard the balance by overcoming threats to humanity, all while enjoying unparalleled freedom to traverse and discover Nova City on a journey to find out who you really are."
So far, so fine. It doesn't sound especially groundbreaking, but there's certainly plenty to like there. So why all the hubbub? Well, certain elements of the game bear more than a passing resemblance to Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and GTA, both of which are attracting significant controversy from gathered players.

The game is currently available to play at the Tokyo Games Show, and that has done little to quiet chatter around the game.
In a video sharing the gameplay on Twitter/X, the responses varied from genuine excitement to outright suspicion.
"So far, zero gameplay. I don’t see any gameplay just holding things, arresting people… and running into each other. Where’s the combat? Just say straight out that it doesn’t have any already," one said.
"I...just don't get the point of the game. I mean, I'll play it, but I can't seem to figure out what the main goal in the game is so far. It just seems random," another added.

Others were a lot more positive, with one saying, "YES I will be giving the NPCs the same GTA V vehicular manslaughter treatment!!
Having seemingly come out of absolutely nowhere, it's little surprise that there's so much trepidation about what exactly Ananta is going to be.
In fairness, the fact it's on show right now at least proves that what we have seen so far is real, but what it will look like when it does launch is anyone's guess.
In even more frightening news, rumours suggest the plan is to launch later this year, or early in 2026, so we won't have long to wait to find out.
