Xbox owners have a new free game to add to their growing collection and the best part is you don’t even need Xbox Game Pass.

It’s been a great year for Xbox so far and there’s a lot for fans to get excited about. Soon the company will be celebrating its 25th anniversary and after the Xbox Game Pass price cut plus the promise of more backwards compatible titles, expectations are high.

While today’s news isn’t as exciting as that, it's still good news for Xbox owners as you’ve got another free game to play.

Hey, Who Turned Out The Lights?

The latest free game to grace your Xbox library will be Blindfire, a multiplayer first-person shooter with one of the coolest competitive premises we’ve seen in a while.

In a nutshell, Blindfire is a bit like The Purge combined with Squid Game. The rich use their wealth to host a sadistic killing game where players are plunged into darkness as they fight for survival.

With so few light sources in the arena, players are unable to effectively keep track of their opponents.

To survive you have to channel your inner Daredevil and use the sounds around you to pinpoint your enemy’s location. This comes with its own risk though because once you fire your weapon, the flash from your gun will leave you exposed, as will the sound of the gunshot.

Even if you successfully down your opponent, you'll still have attracted unwanted attention. It’s a very cool idea for a game.

Blindfire was released back in 2024 under the Game Preview banner and could be purchased from the Xbox Store for around $9. Unfortunately, reviews didn’t rave about it even with a free trial available to try before you buy.

Despite this, it’s come a long way and now more players than ever will be able to give it a go as it has officially gone free-to-play on the Xbox digital store.

This isn’t temporary nor is it tied into one of Xbox’s Free Play Days events; it’s free to own and play at your leisure. You don’t even need a subscription to Xbox Game Pass for it.

Xbox players aren’t the only ones who can take advantage of this freebie either. Those who prefer the PlayStation Store or PC via Steam can also play the game for free as well. Cross-play and cross-gen is supported.

Blindfire isn’t going to dethrone Fortnite or Apex Legends anytime soon, but it’s still worth a go if you’re looking for a new multiplayer game to play, especially one that doesn’t cost you a penny.
