It seems that the popular Viking multiplayer survival game Valheim may be coming to PlayStation 5 after all.

Developed by Iron Gate Studio, Valheim was first released in February 2021 and quickly became one of the most popular games on the PC Steam platform. During its release just over two years ago, according to SteamDB, Valheim achieved an all-time concurrent player peak of 502,387. Granted, those numbers have drastically dropped today with the concurrent player numbers averaging between 30K to 40K on any given day. Still, it maintains a loyal and active fanbase, and most players shouldn't struggle to get into a game with other players.

Take a look at some of our favourite Valheim wins and fails below.

“Valheim takes place in a world where slain Vikings go to prove themselves fit for the halls of Valhalla,” reads the game's synopsis. “As one such, the player begins with nothing and soon discovers that to reach the Norse afterlife, they must defeat the evils that stalk Valheim. Led only by their instincts and occasional hints from a raven, the player must prepare to fight the sworn enemies of Odin himself.”

Recently, Valheim was released for Xbox and came to Game Pass, so fans were wondering if the game is headed to PlayStation too. Unfortunately at the time, Jonathan Smårs of Iron Gate Studios said that they are “only looking at Xbox. But, you never know.”

While it wasn't a definitive answer, PlayStation fans weren't left with much optimism. However, that prospect may have already changed. As reported by Push Square, a small detail on an Xbox Game Pass newsletter suggests that Valheim is an Xbox console exclusive for six months, which might imply that it will be released for PlayStation at some point. As of right now, Valheim’s arrival on PlayStation isn't set in stone. That being said, it looks more likely than ever that the prospect might come to fruition in less than a year. Fingers crossed.
