PlayStation players have a chance to grab a freebie download for an upcoming game, giving them the chance to demo it weeks before release.

The game in question is SUPER ROBOT WARS Y, coming from Bandai Namco, and as you might expect from the name, it’s a game filled to the brim with mechs and Gundamn-style machines.

SUPER ROBOT WARS Y will release on 27 August 2025, and PlayStation fans can get their hands on it a little earlier, through a free demo on the PSN store.

If this game hasn’t been on your radar, there’s a great trailer that breaks down the over-the-top story, and grid-based combat.

With eye-popping visuals, bolstered by bright colours and an anime aesthetic, this is sure to win over players who have long been fans of shows like Gundam.

This is because the game pulls from all those massive, successful shows, bringing together a ‘greatest hits’ package perfect for long-time viewers.

Here, you’ll find some of the best mechs from Code Geass, Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury, SSSS, and Godzilla Singular Point.

Not only do the mechs appear here, but also the familiar pilots who make the anime so compelling.

Players will navigate the many missions, calling on these iconic characters, and battling it out using tactics on a grid-based system.

Fans are already excited to see their favourites appear in the game, with hopes that more will arrive via DLC down the line.

While the genre might be unfamiliar for mech combat, the use of grid-based battling should even the playing field and take away any fear of being unable to control a flying mech suit.

If you want to give it a try for yourself, the demo is available now, as is the ability to pre-order the game is you like what you see.
