Ubisoft's Avatar Game Is Coming Way Sooner Than We Expected

Even though we've seen very little, development is apparently going well.

Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora was first announced to be in development by Ubisoft in March 2017, but much like the four sequels to James Cameron’s multiple Academy Award winning film, we heard little about it after.

However, it appears the age of Avatar is upon us. At CinemaCon in April, it was announced that the first Avatar sequel, Avatar: The Way Of Water, is coming this December, with a remastered version of the original Avatar coming back to cinemas in September.

You can see the first look trailer for Frontiers Of Pandora in the video below.

As reported by Eurogamer, we now have more concrete details about the game’s release. It’s being developed by Massive Entertainment, best known for developing The Division series, and has been in the works for over five years.

Ubisoft have said that Frontiers Of Pandora will release this financial year - so before April 2023 - however, as the films are coming out in Autumn/Winter, it is likely that the games will be planned to launch in time with the media excitement.

We got our first look at the game at E3 2021, where they shared footage of the player controlling a Na’vi around a previously unseen area known as the Western Frontier. Much like the original film, the plot of the game revolves around the people indiginous to Pandora, fighting back against Earth’s resources development administration, which want to mine the area for the rare element unobtainium.

Aside from Massive Entertainment, other Ubisoft studios, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Düsseldorf have been working on the project. While the publisher did announce that Frontiers Of Pandora would be released in 2022, it seems everyone these days delays their games at least once. To hear that Ubisoft, the same company which is developing and publishing Beyond Good And Evil 2, might actually get a game out on time is highly unexpected.
