Resident Evil 9 fans will be able to play the highly anticipated survival horror entry sooner than expected.
After Capcom announced Resident Evil 9 (officially called “Requiem”) in July 2024, we were treated to its first trailer at Summer Game Fest this month, and it’s fair to say, Resident Evil fans went into a frenzy of excitement.
For the first time since Raccoon City was nuked during the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 (not including any spin-offs), we’re returning to the place once infested with zombies.

Resident Evil Requiem will star Grace Ashford, daughter of Alyssa Ashford from Resident Evil Outbreak (as far as we’re aware, she is no relation to the Ashfords from Resident Evil Code: Veronica).
While the trailer featured no gameplay, its cinematic presence was more than enough to set the tone of what’s expected from the game. That being said, those lucky few who attended Summer Game Fest were able to see an exclusive gameplay presentation of Resident Evil Requiem.
Earlier this week, Capcom announced that a “spotlight digital event” will take place next week, featuring upcoming content for Street Fighter 6 and Monster Hunter Wilds. They will be joined by Pragmata, and of course, Resident Evil Requiem.

However, a playable build of Resident Evil Requiem will be available to the public at Gamescom this August.
I’d be very surprised if a demo was made public to download during Gamescom, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that it could happen, as unlikely as that might be.
It’s worth keeping in mind that Capcom tends to release playable demos for Resident Evil games ahead of time during the same month of its release.
If Capcom changes its habit for Resident Evil Requiem, it would be a nice surprise. Yet, I’ll be over the moon to see the gameplay that was shown behind closed doors at Summer Game Fest.

Resident Evil Requiem will be released on 27 February 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
