A Ubisoft title just took Guinness World Record for most-delayed game

If you’re a fan of video games, you’re certainly no stranger to a delay and the past couple of months have been full of them. Analysts are claiming that the upcoming release of God of War Ragnarök has other games running for the hills. 

Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, but we do know that Skull And Bones, Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora, Forspoken, Hogwarts Legacy and Starfield have all been delayed until 2023. You may bemoan having to wait an extra few months for a game but at least it’s not this bad: One Ubisoft title has just taken the Guinness World Record for the lengthiest delay.

Ubisoft’s Beyond Good & Evil 2 has officially taken the Guinness World Record from Duke Nukem Forever for the lengthiest gaming development period. Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first teased back in 2008. It later received a full reveal in 2017 and a trailer was released in 2018, yet here we are with the game nowhere to be seen.

In contrast, Duke Nukem Forever was released in 2011, 14 years after it was revealed. GamesIndustry.biz’s Brendan Sinclair tweeted, “Duke Nukem Forever went 5,156 days from its announcement in 1997 to its release in 2011. It has been 5,234 days since the first Beyond Good & Evil 2 trailer was released,” which has since extended to 5,238.

Back in July, leakers suggested that Beyond Good & Evil 2 might not be as dead as we originally thought. Rumours suggested that Ubisoft was beginning playtesting on the project but take this with a pinch of salt for now. In the meantime, I guess Beyond Good & Evil 2 can continue extending its record. That’s something.
