Yoda’s decision to go to Dagobah after the Jedi Order fell was certainly a weird one, but the reason for doing so makes a lot of sense.
Towards the end of The Revenge Of The Sith, we see Yoda escape the Jedi Temple after losing to Darth Sidious, before entering a rocket and blasting off to Dagobah to live out the rest of his life.

While it’s not explicitly stated why he chose Dagobah of all planets, the answer is surprisingly obvious when you consider what Dagobah actually is.

Dagobah is essentially a Sith planet that’s teeming with Dark Side energy, as we see in the original trilogy when Luke finds a cave that shows him what could happen if he fell to the dark like his father did.
Yoda supposedly chose Dagobah so it would mask him from Sidious and other Sith, allowing him to evade capture for many years after The Empire rose to power. We’ve seen Darth Maul do something similar in the Star Wars Rebels TV series.
Of course, you could also argue that he chose it because of how deserted it is, after all Yoda’s species are seemingly uncommon in the galaxy, so even if he had his cloak on, you’d still have your eyes drawn to him if you saw him hobbling down the street.
Eventually, he would be tracked down by Luke, teaching him how to use the force, before dying of old age, or so we thought…

But in the end, the many years he spent foraging in the swamps and probably going a bit cuckoo in the process was worth it, as without him, Luke wouldn’t have had the power to stop Darth Vader and Sidious.
