Star Wars' Grogu Getting Quietly Replaced By Disney

He's not even an adult yet

If Disney can do one thing right it’s make cute mascots, as the company has prided itself on its character designs for years.

One of the cutest creations to come from Disney’s many IPs in recent years is Grogu from Star Wars, who had a huge impact on viewership when The Mandalorian first came out and has another adventure on the way via The Mandalorian And Grogu movie.

Go to any Disney shop and there’ll be heaps of Grogu merch, though the green critter might be getting replaced by something even more adorable, Oswald.

Oswald The Rabbit is an old Disney mascot akin to Mickey Mouse who’s getting a Disney+ series, which currently has the codename Ink and Paint. Like Grogu in The Mandalorian he’ll be brought to life with some clever puppeteering, but there’ll probably also be a lot of animation and CGI as well.

Filming for the new series has been taking place at Disneyland in the U.S with Kathryn Hahn and Jon Favreau, with Favreau also being responsible for bringing us The Mandalorian.

A release date for the new series is unknown but many are speculating it’ll air sometime in 2027, 100 years after Oswald’s debut in 1927.

Personally I’m looking forward to seeing this iconic Disney character get the spotlight once again, but will he reach the same fame and prestige as Grogu? Probably not.

At least this means Grogu isn’t getting replaced in the Star Wars canon anytime soon, unless something catastrophic happens in The Mandalorian And Grogu, which seems unlikely.

In real-life there’ll be more than enough room for both characters to share the spotlight when it comes to appearances and merch. Any Disneyland parkgoers will know that Disney likes to keep its venues as immersive as possible, and separates its IPs into different areas so there’s no crossover.
