Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is getting a brand new sequel later this month, if you can believe it.

Now almost six years old, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ended up being a little controversial amongst fans for some of its writing choices. Still, even with all that considered, it did end up making just over a billion dollars at the box office.

But if anyone who really did want to see some of the plot threads from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker continued, you’re in luck.

As announced by Disney, Star Wars: The Last Order is a brand new young adult novel set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and features Finn and Jannah as the central characters.

It’s notable for being the first Star Wars novel to be set after the end of the sequel trilogy, which seems pretty important as we’ll now get to see a bit more of what the galaxy looks like after the fall of the First Order.

Here’s the official summary of the book, as per Penguin Randomhouse:

“New York Times best-selling author Kwame Mbalia makes his Star Wars debut with this exciting YA novel!

“Following the end of Star Wars:The Rise of Skywalker, the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who had been kidnapped by the First Order. As Finn and Jannah set out to find the First Order officer responsible before he can endanger any more children, the two former stormtroopers must wrestle with their own complicated pasts as soldiers of the oppressive regime.

“Take a deep dive into the pasts of popular characters Finn and Jannah in this richly-drawn, action-packed story that fans have been asking for.”

As for what the fans think so far, the reception appears to be positive.

“Ohh. I’m Hyped,” wrote one user on the Star Wars Cantina Reddit page when the book was announced back in May. "Like opinions on the sequel movies aside. The books and comics for the Sequel era has been surprisingly great and has made me really warm up to the sequel era as a whole.”

“This sounds really good! It feels surreal to finally get books starring the sequels heroes,” wrote another.

Star Wars: The Last Order will be released on 21st October, 2025. The hardcover copy will retail for $18.99, with a paperback presumably being made available for purchase at a later date.
