You can always rely on Star Wars to bring back presumed-dead characters.

In The Phantom Menace, there’s nothing to signal that Darth Maul survived being chopped in half and falling down a reactor shaft, and yet …

Then, of course, there’s Palpatine.

This big bad seemingly met his end in Return of the Jedi after also being thrown down a reactor shaft.

They’ve got to start building safety barriers around those things.

As we’re all all aware though, Palpatine somehow returned in the oft-ridiculed The Rise of Skywalker.

The Book of Boba Fett essentially existed to explain how Boba did, in fact, survive falling into the Sarlacc pit.

The lesson to be learnt here is that clearly no one is ever truly dead in the Star Wars universe.

With that in mind, fans are just now learning of the survival of one more character.

ICYMI: Star Wars Outlaws launches at the end of this month. Take a look at our preview below.

In The Mandalorian, Dr. Penn Pershing’s fate was left a tad up in the air. That’s the doctor who you may recall researched Grogu’s blood for Moff Gideon.

In the show’s third season, Pershing was betrayed by Elia Kane and placed into a device called the mind flayer, intended to remove his memories.

Kane turned the device up to full throttle though, leaving us to perhaps assume that Pershing died.

Well, as pointed out by ScreenRant, the Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy appears to have disproved that assumption.

“Pershing is turned over to the New Republic, and during his rehabilitation, he's betrayed by Elia Kane, who wipes his memory with a mind flayer,” it reads.

If Kane had killed him, you’d have thought that it would’ve been mentioned so alas, a memoryless Pershing is still at large.

With that in mind, it wouldn’t surprise me if the character showed up again, perhaps factoring into the plot of The Mandalorian & Grogu.
