Star Wars film viewers still have hope that a cancelled sequel could still see the light of day, and it’s all thanks to the MCU.
Star Wars’ sequel trilogy wasn’t great. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was a good start but whatever momentum the trilogy was going to have was quickly killed by Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, and that’s not me being mean because I actually quite like that film.
The problem was there was no plan. It didn’t feel like a coherent story like the previous films did; it felt like it was making things up as it went along, because it was.
One of the biggest sins committed by the sequel trilogy though was what it did to Kylo Ren, specifically killing him off at the end of the third film.

Kylo could have returned though in a sequel titled Star Wars: The Hunt For Ben Solo, which Adam Driver himself pitched after being disappointed with the character’s end. Driver recently shared a bunch of details on the film, likely breaking some NDAs, and the fans ate it up.

Apparently Disney shot the idea down but now the fans are convinced it could still happen, all thanks to Ryan Reynolds of all people.
The Merc With A Mouth, And A Breach Of Contract
Now part of the MCU, Ryan Reynolds wanted to bring Deadpool to live-action for the longest time and because 20th Century Fox kept shooting down the idea, like Disney did with the Kylo Ren film, Ryan Reynolds leaked the test footage only for it to go viral. Because of the reaction from fans, Deadpool (2016) was greenlit.

“He [Ryan Reynolds] said that the internet forced the studio to make the movie. I think Adam Driver knows exactly what he’s doing,” said one fan on X.
I’ve seen many other fans agree that this is a film that deserves to be made, as a swan song for the sequel trilogy that does some of its characters justice. That said, I've also seen people say Star Wars: The Hunt For Ben Solo doesn’t have the same mass appeal as Deadpool’s big-screen outing did and I disagree.
As much as people disliked the sequel trilogy, Kylo Ren/Ben Solo was arguably the best part of those films, so to have a spin-off that extends his short-lived redemption in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker is exactly what the series deserves, and I think viewers would love it.
The ball is in Disney’s court now, but it’s also up to fans to keep shouting about this film and how badly they want to see it made.
