Star Wars trilogy from Last Jedi director is still on the table

Somehow, The Last Jedi returned

One of the best Star Wars films of all time (fight me), Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, may still be getting that long thought dead follow-up trilogy… and the director of The Last Jedi could be returning to direct it too.

Look, I don’t wanna hear your blabbering about how “Luke was mischaracterised”” or “the film ignores the extended universe’s canon!”-- The Last Jedi absolutely slaps. Sorry not sorry.

Which is why I’m extremely happy to hear that the trilogy of follow-up films to Episode VIII is, apparently, still a possibility; at least according to director Rian Johnson.

The director was recently asked in an interview with The Independent if the previously announced trilogy was still in the works, and what happened to the project since it was revealed back in 2017.

“What happened? Knives Out!” Johnson told The Independent.

“I mean, I kind of went down the murder mystery rabbit hole – I’m focused on making other stuff. But that wouldn’t rule out it happening down the line. If I get back in the Star Wars universe someday, I’d be the happiest person.”

Still, surely Johnson wouldn’t want to actually direct said trilogy, right? I mean, the fan base was absolutely awful to him so I doubt he has good memories about the whole debacle…

Well, actually, he seems to only have positive things to say about it these days.

“I always want to make this clear: it’s not like I’ve gone through a living hell or something… I’ve had the kind of experience that you only dream about as a filmmaker”, Johnson continued.

“I was in my twenties when the prequels came out… I mean, you talk about wars between Star Wars fans… We experienced our own. That [the prequels] was World War I, and this [The Last Jedi] was World War II.”

Nice to know he didn’t let the experience (and the resulting fallout) get him down, because I wanna see what he can cook up if given the reins to the franchise again.

Also I enjoy watching you losers on Twitter get mad about it so, please continue, Rian.
