Star Wars fans have always wondered exactly where Yoda and his unknown species originated from in the lore, but it turns out that the main man himself, George Lucas, already told us… over 20 years ago.
What is Yoda, exactly? Well, the simple answer is, nobody bloody knows.
Even following the new Disney Star Wars films and TV shows, and the inclusion of a new member of Yoda’s species (Grogu), we still don’t actually know what the hell his specific race of alien is even called. In fact, the Star Wars Wookiepedia still just refers to them as “Yoda’s species” for christ sake.

Well it turns out Lucas did sort of give us an explanation of sorts, all the way back in 2002.
On the DVD extras of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, there’s a little mini documentary titled Star Wars: From Puppets To Pixels that details the creation of the prequel film’s puppets.
At one point in the documentary, Lucas is giving instructions on how exactly to model Yoda, and jokingly reveals his origin in the process.
“Big thighs... huge thighs... Kermit thighs…” begins Lucas.

"What we've done is… we're going to blend Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. The illegitimate child of Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. We've never discussed this before, and don't let it get out."
Over on a Reddit post reacting to the interview, Star Wars fans couldn’t help but poke fun at Lucas for his little joke.
“That probably wasn't a joke at first the dude is f**king insane…” commented user Papermachetoilet.
“Disney now owns Jim Henson Workshop and Lucasfilm,” replied user bimtott.

“Not saying they should make this canon, but they could…”
Look, I know Lucas says a lot of mad stuff on a regular basis, but this is clearly a joke on his behalf.
At least, I’m 99% sure he’s joking this time. I mean he did laugh… oh god what if he wasn’t joking.
