Star Wars fans roast Darth Maul's live-action return

It left many viewers confused

Darth Maul’s story is an interesting one.

He’s easily one of the coolest characters in the Star Wars universe, yet one whose story many fans didn’t actually see play out.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Darth Maul perished during Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace's epic ‘Dual of the Fates’.

Obi-Wan Kenobi managed to get the upper hand, slicing Darth Maul in two, but only after the Sith Lord had fatally wounded Qui-Gon Jinn.

It just so happens that Darth Maul survived being chopped in half, a story that plays out in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels and The Clone Wars.

He channeled his hatred of Obi-Wan into the Dark Side of The Force and apparently ended up on a junk planet where he used the scrap metal to create new spider-like legs.

Maul pretty much drove himself mad until his brother, Savage Opress, eventually found him with Maul later being restored by the Nightsister Mother Talzin on Dathomir.

I’ll admit, it’s not the most believable of comebacks but hey, that’s the official canon.

Darth Maul then made a return to live-action in Solo: A Star Wars Story but it’s an appearance that didn’t make sense to many.

You see, if you didn’t watch The Clone Wars, Maul’s comeback wouldn’t have made a lot of sense as the last time the dude appeared in live-action, he was getting sliced in half.

Lucasfilm must have been aware that the cameo would confuse a large chunk of Solo’s audience.

Well, apparently not - and it’s something the fanbase is roasting.

“I took my dad to see this movie, when this scene happened he was so confused. I tried to explain it to him and he said, ‘HE WAS CUT IN HALF!!’,” wrote Reddit user FlamesFan2004.

“Confusing the vast majority of the people who saw that movie,” Ikn240 said of the appearance.

“I hadn't seen Clone Wars yet so I was big confused,” remarked SpaceCaptainFlapjack.

“Seems dumb in hindsight and for casual fans but I think the proposed sequel would have explained his survival to the masses. I really wish we got Solo 2, I thought Solo was actually really fun,” gothflyboi said, and I’m inclined to agree.

Solo isn’t the best Star Wars film out there, but it’s still pretty fun and I definitely would have liked to have seen Maul’s return play out.

We were left hanging though, just as we were with Darth Plagueis' inclusion in The Acolyte.

When are the Sith getting their time in the spotlight?
