A lot of Star Wars fans seem oddly eager for Disney to reboot the franchise, following on from the mess that was Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
However, the weirdest thing about the fan response is that they aren’t just entertaining a reboot of the Sequel Trilogy… they seem weirdly keen about Disney potentially remaking the Original Trilogy and the Prequel Trilogy too.
While the consensus is still decidedly mixed on Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, we all seem to be in agreement that The Rise of Skywalker was absolute dogwater.
Naturally, the Sequel Trilogy’s ending (and overall quality) led to mass outcry from Star Wars fans, with many stating that Disney should outright reboot the three films and start again from scratch.

Over on the r/StarWars subreddit, one user asked a pretty innocuous question: “Can you see a future where they do a reboot of Star Wars?”
Now, when I first read that, I just assumed they were referring to the Sequel Trilogy. The folks in the comments took it as meaning the entirety of Star Wars as a whole, including the Original Trilogy.
Surprisingly, the top comments in the thread are from people who think that’s a great idea.
“I can absolutely see that and I hope it happens. They can learn a few things from the MCU like having a Fiege and having a person in charge of continuity. Start at the beginning and tell a story until the end. Don't jump around needlessly…” commented user KevinAnniPadda.

“Almost completely cut out the sequel characters and make the third act more about the original characters and completing their stories. Expand on characters like Leia who has so little background and we never saw enough of as an adult. We are so little of her and Luke interacting as siblings and as Force users.”
“They could easily do a reboot. But they'd have to commit to it. Don't just recast and remake the OT. Start completely fresh in a new era, with new heroes, new villains, and a whole new plot devoid from all the drama of the Skywalker Saga”, replied user Shreddzzz93.
“This requires a level of work I don't know if Disney is willing to put in. Disney seems to be perfectly fine just running IPs into annual releases to get a quick buck.”
Uhh, I don’t know about all that, chief.

I don’t consider myself a huge Star Wars fan in the slightest, but even I think this is a terrible, awful idea.
The Sequel Trilogy? Sure. Go for it. Go full scorched earth on it. I’d be impressed if they somehow managed to make something worse than The Rise of Skywalker.
But the Original Trilogy? That sounds like it would be a disaster. If you think fans hate Disney now, just wait until you see them recast Luke Skywalker as Timothée Chalamet. I think there would be riots in the streets.
