Ewan McGregor himself has dished the details on a potential return of the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, and fans already have some very enthusiastic ideas about exactly how that could play out.
Back in 2022, Star Wars fans were finally treated to the Obi-Wan project of their dreams.
It featured the return of both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, a story that would bridge the gap between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, and the first glimpse at a young Luke Skywalker in live action… and it was fine.
Look, Disney’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series has its problems (like whatever the hell that Princess Leia chase scene was), but it had its bright spots too. By all accounts, it was also a huge hit for Disney+, so… why exactly have we never gotten a second season? Or even a film to follow up on its ending?

Turns out, Ewan McGregor also has no idea why that’s the case, because he’s been outright begging to reprise his role since the miniseries aired.
As detailed in an article by Popverse's Joseph Pete, McGregor was quite outspoken about his desire to return to the role at the recent 2025 Fan Expo in Chicago.
“They brought out Disney+ and they wanted a big splash, and I thought that's what we were going to be and then just before we made it, the Mandalorian came out…” McGregor revealed to the crowd.
“I thought, 'Wait a minute, I thought we were supposed to be the big splash.' I thought, 'Wait a minute, what's this, what's this going on here?' But there would seem to be plenty of room for all of us… Somebody give me a job. Come on Disney. We need season 2 for goodness sakes. What are we waiting for?”

Over on Star Wars Holocron’s Tweet detailing the news, fans seem excited about a potential Season 2… as long as it has a few changes.
“I would love to see a season 2, but in a very different way they did season 1”, commented user @SWfansExclusive.
“YES it should be about Qui Gon Jinn teaching him about becoming a force ghost”, replied user @Cudibetter.
“I really wish they’d move on from the same characters over and over again. But Ewan McGregor is great and really loves the character. So ya, let’s go. Keep making his show until he is old and white like Alec Guiness”, commented user @Senate5000.

On one hand, Hayden Christensen did return again for the first season of Ahsoka back in 2023, so clearly Disney aren’t suddenly averse to bringing back the Prequels actors all of the sudden.
On the other hand, there have been quite a lot of duds in between Obi-Wan Kenobi and now, so perhaps Disney is waiting to see if the franchise still has some box office staying power until they greenlight any more projects.
If the likes of The Mandalorian & Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter prove to be box office hits, then I wouldn’t be surprised if McGregor does get to take a second swing at another season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Otherwise… well, we’ll see what happens when we get there.
