It would seem that fans aren’t over the clownfest that was Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, and they have every right to still be mad.
I know recent years haven’t exactly been kind to the Sequel Trilogy’s reception, but I still maintain that both Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens and Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi are great films.
Admittedly, I do understand why hardcore Star Wars fans weren’t too impressed by The Last Jedi, but that’s besides the point.
The real thing that unites all Star Wars fans, regardless of whether they started off with the original trilogy or even the prequels, is that Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker is absolutely rubbish.

The ninth Star Wars film dropped the ball in thousands of different respects, yet the one that always upsets me the most is Snoke.
They had such a good set up going with this guy. He was creepy, implied to be all-knowing, and built up as a genuinely good threat… only to get randomly killed and replaced with Palpatine halfway through the third film in the trilogy.
Fans over on the r/StarWars subreddit can’t get over the odd bait and switch, because the retcon that Snoke was created by Palpatine is so terrible, it’s still confusing viewers years after the film hit cinemas.
“Lol nah snoke didn’t know. Hell, the writers and actors didn’t know either until they pulled that out of their asses last minute,” commented user IamAgoddamnjoke.

“What a complete and total disaster… horrifically bad s**t.”
“I highly doubt it. The entire Snoke situation was potential for the easiest and best connection in all of Star Wars”, replied user Btiel4291.
“All they had to do for Snoke was this; Reveal in the 8th movie that his true identity is actually Darth Plagueis and that he did in fact learn how to cheat death, calling us back to Palpatines line in ROTS “Ironic, he could save others but not himself”... But that genius move was too easy for Disney so instead we got whatever bulls**t they pulled out in TROS which feels like it was written and filmed in the span of 2 weeks.”
Honestly, is it too late to just… do Episode IX again?

Disney were on to something with those first two films, and I think even those who hated The Last Jedi would have preferred that they didn’t attempt to course correct for the final film (and ultimately please nobody).
