The fierce, albeit very short, duel between Mace Windu and Jango Fett is just one of many iconic moments in 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.
However, a recent discovery shows that the fight was originally supposed to be a lot more brutal before it was understandably edited in the final cut.
The fight between the legendary pair takes place during the First Battle of Genesis and ends with Mace Windu using his iconic purple lightsaber to decapitate the father of Boba Fett.
However, after deeming it slightly too gory for its younger audience, it seems as though the original cut of this famous duel was changed and the comparison was recently shared over on r/StarWars.

“Would you have wanted this version?” The original poster asked alongside the two cuts side by side.
There is no denying that the two cuts are pretty similar with Mace Windu using his lightsaber to deflect Jango’s bullets before closing the gap between them.
The Jedi Master then slashes the weapons from Jango’s grip before ultimately removing him from his head.
The shot then switches to Jango’s body falling to the ground as his helmeted head flies off in a different direction.

The alternate scene is slightly longer and shows Mace toying with Jango a bit more and Star Wars fans were quick to head to the comments to share their thoughts.
“Love the shadow of Jango's head leaving the helmet,” one user shared, which is a very gruesome detail indeed.
For user QueenStuff, they have a favourite version of the epic battle.
“I kinda prefer the official scene, just because I think it shows how lethal Mace Windu is,” their comment read.

“He just immediately goes for a kill, it seems more like a Sith moves to toy with somebody and cuts off limbs and stabs them before going for a kill.”
With a large majority of fans believing the official scene is the best thanks to Windu’s quick and efficient kill, it seems as though Lucasfilm made the right decision in cutting it down.
However, it just goes to show how brutal the world of Star Wars could really be if it was marketed towards a more adult audience.
