Lord Of The Rings: Rings Of Power season 3 officially confirmed

We'll be visiting Middle-Earth a lot more

The Lord of the Rings prequel, The Rings of Power, is set to continue over on Amazon Prime as the showrunners sign on for another season in a new three year deal with Amazon. Patrick McKay and JD Payne have inked a new deal that guarantees we’ll see the continuation of The Rings of Power and work has already started on early preparations for the show.

The Rings of Power debuted in 2022 and was received with a mixed reaction, but that didn’t stop the show racking up Emmy nominations and viewers. While the budget secured some amazing sets and costumes, many believed the story too slow and simple compared to the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films.

The Rings of Power sets out events thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings

Despite that, the first season ended with some great cliffhangers in the central plots and left viewers wondering what would happen next. The second season has wrapped production and should be on our screens this year. The creators are aware that the second outing needs to step up its game and McKay has spoken on this recently saying the aim of season two is to be “bigger and better” on “every level … by an order of magnitude. The bar has to keep going up.”

The new deal will keep the duo at Amazon Studios and work will continue on the show. There’s no news as to whether The Rings of Power will go beyond the three seasons, there’s plenty of material for the crew to dig into, but it will depend on the audience and their patience for a high fantasy story.

As someone who enjoys Lord of the Rings but doesn’t count them among my favourite films, I enjoyed The Rings of Power because my investment was low. I’m intrigued to see where McKay and Payne take the show and the lore that has been well established for decades.
