It’s likely going to be a while until the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power lands on our screens, but that hasn’t stopped Prime Video from teasing what we can expect.

I’ll admit, season two was a tad hit and miss compared to its predecessor, but it still made for an enjoyable watch.

In fact, GAMINGbible’s Dan Lipscombe summed up the season very nicely in his review.

“While yes, there are some missteps here and there, some storylines that won’t always thrill but might come into their own, there’s no denying the scope of this show,” he wrote.

“There’s an underlying passion that can be felt in the bones of everything you see whether that’s in the sublime practical effects and makeup, the sumptuous wardrobes, the heartfelt turns before the camera, or the sweeping vistas once only imagined.”

We shouldn’t expect more of the same though in the upcoming third season, as Prime Video is set to shake-up the formula, skipping forward “several years” in the story.

Craving something to watch? The Last of Us returns for its second season this April on HBO.

In a shock tease, Prime Video has confirmed that season three of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will feature a major time jump, albeit one that I think will please many.

Why? We’re skipping ahead to the height of the war between the elves and Sauron.

“Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last,” the surprise tease reads.

A tease should generate hype and this one has certainly done the trick.

“OMG, I can’t wait,” wrote one Twitter user in response.

“Season three is about to be great,” added another.

There’s no release window for season three but when it does finally arrive, you’ll be needing a Prime Video subscription.

You can purchase one of those over on Amazon for £8.99 a month, or £95 for a year here in the UK.

In the US, a subscription will set you back $14.99 a month, or $139 for a year.

In both cases, you can make use of a 30 day free trial.
