The Lord of the Rings fans just can’t seem to agree on whether or not we should get a new adaptation of the original three books, and they can’t even agree on the same reason as to why it's a good or a bad idea.
Whether you like it or not, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are dead set on pumping out some new Lord of the Rings content.
We’ve already had the 2024 animated film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, and the 2027 film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is well into production, so it’s pretty clear that they’re not slowing down any time soon.
LOTR fans can clearly see which way the wind is blowing, which is why one user’s thread over on the r/lotr subreddit discussing a potential remake of the original trilogy got some very interesting responses.

“I think there should be a new LOTR adaptation.... eventually!” commented user Doom_of__Mandos.
“There are a lot of cool details in the books that didn't make it in Jackson's movies. Heck, I would happily watch a version where Frodo is more heroic and wise (more accurate to the books), just that change alone would add a different tone to Frodo's personality and in turn give a different tone to the overall story, which would be enough to warrant a new version.”
“I think they should leave the Third Age/War of the Ring alone,” replied user Eldritch_Giraffe.
“Don’t remake it at all, not as another set of movies, and not as a T.V. show. It’s disrespectful to the actors and actresses who made it to decide to remake it after 20-25 years just because it’s old.”

Personally, I think I see both sides of the argument.
There is more to adapt in those books that could be interesting to see, but it does feel a little bit too early to bother… and I doubt that it would be better than what Peter Jackson managed to pull off.
The again, the notion of it being 'too soon' hasn't stopped Warner Bros. from going ahead with its Harry Potter reboot and fair to say, The Rings of Power isn't really scratching the itch of Lord of the Rings fans.
Maybe it could be a good idea much further down the line, but for now I’d prefer we leave the legacy of the original trilogy intact.
