The Lord of the Rings fans get hyped because a new teaser has dropped for the highly anticipated prequel.

Whether it’s the novels from J.R.R. Tolkien or the live-action movie adaptations from Peter Jackson, there’s huge love for the adventures that await in Middle-earth, and, hopefully, the upcoming prequel directed by Andy Serkis and produced by Peter Jackson will be no exception.

In 2024, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum was announced, which will not only see the aforementioned Andy Serkis directed but also reprising his role as Gollum, the Stoor Hobbit of the River-folk, formerly known as Sméagol.

While details on the movie are quite vague at this time, it’s understood that The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum tells the story of Aragorn on the hunt for Gollum to save him from the clutches of Sauron, as he holds valuable information on The One Ring.

Taking place around the events of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Hunt for Gollum will be an original story rather than being adapted directly from the J.R.R. Tolkien novels.

However, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, originally intended to be released sometime in 2026, was recently delayed until December 2027. Despite this, fans have every reason to still be excited.

As reported by Dexerto (via Collider), during an interview, Serkis confirmed that The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is still “very early on in the process.“

He added, “We’ve been talking about the film over the course of the last year. We’re about to start a period of prep in the next few months or so.”

“We will be shooting in the early to mid-part of next year, I guess, and then it’ll be as long as it takes to shoot, which – it’s a sizable movie – all ready for a December 2027 release.”

“I’m incredibly excited to go back and work with my friends and family in New Zealand and actually do something which is, I think, going to be surprising, and yet very much part of the lore and the feel of the trilogy.”

“The sensibility of it will feel, I think, close to that, and yet we’re investigating in greater depth the character formerly known as Smeagol, but mostly known as Gollum,” Serkis concluded.

Hopefully, the movie will suffer no further delays and shooting will begin next year. We’ll keep you posted when new information drops on The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
