The Lord of the Rings fans are horrified to learn the real age of the legendary but somewhat sinister Gollum.

The Lord of the Rings franchise was created by J.R.R. Tolkien, and was later adapted into epic live-action movies directed by Peter Jackson; it is one of the most important and inspirational properties of all time, whether we're talking the novels, movies or TV series.

The Lord of the Rings has plenty of beloved characters that fans feel a connection to, including Gandalf, Frodo, Bilbo, Aragorn, Legolas and many more. However, while some fans may have a degree of sympathy with this character, there are not a lot of redeeming qualities with Gollum, once known as Sméagol.

Speaking of which, did you know that Gollum is getting a live-action movie prequel? The movie in question is called The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Let’s just hope it’s better than that woeful 2023 game.

Few would argue that Gollum looks good for his age, at least by the long-life Middle-earth standards. But just how old is Gollum, asked Redditor a32filtros?

“He was around 590 years old when he perished,” replied strocau referring to the moment he fell into the fires of Mount Doom in The Return of the King.

It’s said that Gollum (then Sméagol) was about 33 years old when he found the ring, which later corrupted and disfigured him.

“I can't even imagine what spending hundreds of years in a dark cave would be like,” said a Reddit user; that is a factor as to why Gollum’s eyes are so big and why he’s able to see well in the dark.

“He’s older than Eorl and the Kingdom of Rohan,” revealed peortega1, adding to the context of Gollum’s age.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is a standalone story from the J.R.R. Tolkien novels and is expected to be released in 2027.
