Thanos has Quietly Teased Avengers: Doomsday Return

Could the purple titan return?

The Russo brothers have just surprised fans by releasing our very first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday and although the teaser is extremely cryptic, it could just hint at a major character return.

Earlier today, the Avengers: Doomsday directors took to social media to share our first glimpse at something related to the upcoming Marvel flick.

Posting it on their Instagram page, the Russo brothers shared a very zoomed-in and blurred image of what looks to be like a black background with white writing scribbled across.

However, it is illegible and fans have quickly been scrambling to come up with their own theories as to what this may be showing us.

From Reed’s chalkboard to Doom’s equations on the Multiverse, the theories are rampant but the Instagram post itself may have just given us a clue.

Eagle-eyed fans will notice that Thanos’ actor John Brolin himself has already liked the post.

Of course, this could just be the actor showing support for a franchise he has starred in OR it could mean that Thanos himself is set to return.

Yes, we know that Thanos is officially dead, at least in the current timeline the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going with but listen, it wouldn’t be the craziest thing that has happened and many of our favourite characters have come back from the dead.

Not only that, but as pointed out by one writer over on My Comic Relief, in Secret Wars #8 written by Jonathan Hickman, Doctor Doom and Thanos clash in an epic fight.

However, by the time that the two titans collide, Doctor Doom is significantly stronger and takes Thanos out without breaking a sweat.

Could this be re-enacted at the start of Avengers: Doomsday perhaps?

It would definitely establish Doctor Doom as the most powerful villain alive but as My Comic Relief explains, is that even needed? Surely that will be made evident throughout the events of the movie.

Of course, this is merely speculation as neither the Russos or Brolin himself have confirmed Thanos’ return.

That being said, with well over 20 actors set to return for Avengers: Doomsday, surely one more won’t hurt.

In the meantime, fans are still trying to decipher this cryptic teaser image and hopefully, when solved, it will give us some insight into if Thanos’ story is truly over or not.
