We’re getting one Spider-Man 4, yes, but what about second Spider-Man 4?
Next year, we’re getting treated to the fourth official Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day… but why settle at just one fourth Spider-Man film?
In case it wasn’t already painfully obvious from my terrible jokes, I’m referring to Sam Raimi’s and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man film universe in this context.
Although technically, after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, is that the same universe now? Let’s not get into it, there are only so many hours in the day.

After Spider-Man 3 was released back in 2007 to mixed reviews, the discussion of a fourth Tobey Maguire Spider-Man film was immediately on everyone's lips.
In fact, development on a fourth film, with Raimi still attached as director, did officially begin and was scheduled for release in 2011.
Now don't worry, I'm not from an alternate, much cooler reality where that actually did come to pass. Production eventually halted due to a breakdown in discussions between Sony and Raimi, which led to Sony developing 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man instead.
If this 15-year-old news story has upset you, then great news, because it seems that the co-writer behind The Batman is keen to get the film off the ground.

Mattson Tomlin, best known for his work on Terminator Zero and The Batman, re-expressed his interest in writing the script for a fourth Tobey Maguire Spider-Man film (or, fifth, I guess) earlier this week, and specifically stated that he’s been “trying” to get in contact with the right folks to get it off the ground.
This follows his previous statement back in July, when he outlined his ideas for its story.
“Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films”, Tomlin stated on Twitter.
This sounds cool and all, don't get me wrong, but I'm still upset that we never got the planned Vulture/Black Cat version of Spider-Man 4 starring John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway.

Then again… they would still absolutely nail those roles today. Maybe Sony and Disney can grease some wheels and mush the two scripts into one.
Nah, nevermind. I’m giving myself too much hope here. I’ll gladly just settle for Tobey Maguire making that rumoured cameo in Avengers: Doomsday that I keep hearing about.
