Marvel has cancelled one of its upcoming Phase 6 projects, but hasn’t told us what it was going to be yet.
The MCU is chugging along as usual to a mixed reception from fans. Many have argued that it’s just not as good as it used to be, prior to Avengers: Endgame, but with the next Avengers film due next year it finally feels like we’re building towards something great again.
Although I’d argue the MCU hasn’t been as bad as many would make it out to be, with bangers like The Thunderbolts, the better half of Daredevil: Born Again and the newly released Marvel Zombies all having their own merits.
With Marvel Studios thinking 10 steps ahead at all times though projects due for release either just after or during the Secret Wars arc currently in development, except one mysterious project that was recently cancelled.

This “Untitled Marvel Event Film” was supposedly due for release in Phase 6 but has since been shelved, and it’s anyone’s guess as to what it was supposed to be about.
Given that it’s a “Marvel Event” film it sounds like it would have been another crossover of some kind. Nothing enormous like the Avengers films for instance but perhaps something a bit small scale, but still involving a large roster of characters.
Many have speculated it was supposed to be the next Doctor Strange film, after all a third film was teased in the post-credits scene and we’re yet to see anything become of it.
Others hoped it’d be a long-awaited sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, hopefully not though as it’d be a shame to see it cancelled.

Whatever it was originally supposed to be, it’s no longer happening, but as long as Marvel doesn't announce what it was we can’t be too disappointed.
Phase 6 of the MCU is rapidly coming to a close. Next year will kick-off the multiversal war with Avengers: Doomsday, as well as give us what could be the most comic-accurate live-action depiction of Spider-Man yet with Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
After that we’ll be getting Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, which could end with a full-scale reboot of the MCU, changing what Earth our characters are from and likely introducing the X-Men to the main universe.
