One of the latest MCU films has officially rebranded on Disney+, even though they seemingly outright stated that this wasn’t going to be the title of the film several months ago.
I think it’s fair to say that Disney has no idea what they’re doing with the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the moment.
Phase Five was a mixed bag, to say the least. Sure, there were some big hitters in there. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Daredevil: Born Again all seemed to be popular, financially profitable hits.
But it seemed like there were more misses than anything, at least where the box office is concerned. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, Captain America: Brave New World– all three were box office duds (and don’t even get me started on the TV shows).

It’s hard to say how things are going to pan out for Phase Six, considering we’re barely into it yet, but it still seems to me that Disney is trying to throw out everything they can, in hopes of striking gold.
However, there was a bright spot towards the end of Phase Five that made it seem like the MCU was capable of bouncing back, and that film was called Thunderbolts*.
Well, at the time it was called Thunderbolts*. These days, it’s going by a different title… maybe? Look, if Disney doesn’t know, then I’m not entirely sure how you expect me to know.
As detailed in an article by The Direct's Savannah Sanders, Thunderbolts* actually goes by a different name on Disney+, and that name is Thunderbolts*: *The New Avengers. Typing out two asterisks back to back like that feels so wrong.

Here’s the problem though: while, yes, on both the official Disney+ page and physical media releases, Thunderbolts* does indeed also go by “*The New Avengers”, Deadline stated that Disney told them they’d not officially renamed the film. Rather, it seems, it was just a marketing gimmick.
Plus, on the Disney+ page for the film, the summary only refers to the film as Thunderbolts*. And, on the Nielsen Top 10 Streaming Charts, the film also doesn’t feature the “New Avengers” part of the title either.
So, is this technically an Avengers film now, or not? Should we be nestling Thunderbolts* in between Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Doomsday in the Avengers-only watchlists?
Like I said, I don’t know, because it seems that Disney also does not know. Maybe this was just a marketing gimmick to drum up some extra streaming numbers, following Thunderbolts* less-than-stellar box office performance, or maybe it is now the official title of the film.

You’ll have to ask Disney about that one yourselves (if they even have an answer for you).
