MCU Professor X Casting Leaves Marvel Fans in Total Agreement

To me, my X-Men

Marvel fans are patiently waiting for the X-Men to return in the MCU, as we’ve been teased here and there with some famous mutant heroes but we’re yet to see a full team unite.

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will be a crossover for the ages and judging from the current cast, it looks like it’s setting up a conflict between The MCU Avengers and the Fox-verse X-Men.

After the events of Avengers: Secret Wars have concluded though, a new Mutant Saga will supposedly begin and that’s when we’ll likely see a new team come to life.

But who will lead them? Professor X is the usual suspect but Scott Summers, AKA Cyclops has also led the team. If we’re assuming Professor X will lead them first though we’ll need a talented actor to bring the mutant activist to life.

While Sir Patrick Stewart is the obvious pick, I’m sure many fans would agree that it’s time for someone new, and unexpectedly Laurence Fishburne has thrown his hat into the ring.

Speaking on a panel at New York Comic-Con, via Entertainment Weekly, the actor who’s starred in critically-acclaimed franchises like The Matrix and John Wick has said he’d be interested in the role of Professor X.

“I know that they’re talking about the X-Men now,” began Fishburne. “So, at this point, I want one of two things. The first thing would be: what do you think about Laurence Fishburne as Professor X?”

The question excited the audience but Fishburne also hinted that there’d be other roles he’d consider too.

Personally, I think this would be an inspired choice and fans agree, believing Marvel Studios should cast Fishburne in the role ASAP.

“Put him opposite Giancarlo Esposito and LET'S GO!” suggested one fan, obviously pitching Giancarlo Esposito as the MCU's Magento, another exciting possibility.

“I would actually be totally okay with this. He has the right aura and presence. If he hadn't played Morpheus, I wouldn't have bought into it,” said another.

The only issue logical viewers pointed out was Lawrence Fishburne has already appeared in an MCU project before, though you’d be forgiven for forgetting it.

Fishburne starred in Ant-Man And The Wasp as Bill Foster, also known as Goliath and even reprised the role in Marvel’s What If..? series.

That said, because it was such a minor role I don’t think anyone would care if he played a different character. Robert Downey Jr is coming back to play Doctor Doom so anything is possible right?
