Marvel Fans Rejoice, Cancelled MCU TV Show Seemingly Back From the Brink

A welcome return

It is no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been through a bit of a tough period since the release of Avengers: Endgame, which for many served as a natural stopping point in a franchise that they had invested in for well over a decade.

That’s not to say that some individual releases haven’t hit the mark, but Disney has failed to recapture that immense level of hype that they seemingly had bottled for a little while back there.

Though Avengers: Doomsday has every chance of righting the ship, given the return of major figures like Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth, they still have plenty to do to reestablish the wider lore as something that their global audience is interested in.

Now, it seems like they are returning to an older well to get back on track, resurrecting a show that was previously canned during production.

Strange Academy Brought Back After Cancellation

As first reported by ComicBook, Strange Academy is back in active development at Marvel Television, with the production now searching for a new head writer to head up the direction of the show moving forward, with previous head writer Amy Rardin no longer on board.

We don't have many confirmed details at this time, but the show is believed to be a spin-off to the Multiverse of Madness movie, which saw Doctor Strange stranded In the Dark Dimension and still serves as the last time we saw the character all the way back in 2022.

The project was originally going to be a spin-off starring Wong and America Chavez, as the latter begins her training at Kamar-Taj. That was until Marvel canned several shows at the same time, as poor streaming numbers and returns at the box office saw them try to mitigate risk.

The Doctor Strange franchise is certainly one of the areas of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that most needs attention, as what started as a promising direction, quickly became convoluted and mired in real world controversies and decisions.

It is fair to say that this latest move is probably a good one on the part of Marvel and Disney, who really need to get audiences back into their major franchises and story threads ahead of the big swings that the Avengers movies will inevitably be.

Given the early stage of development, it is likely to be sometime before we actually get to see anything of Strange Academy but at least it gives us something to look forward to in uncertain times for both movies and television.
