The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming X-Men film just got a very exciting update, and fans are getting themselves hyped for one specific reason…
Prior to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s new X-Men film entering production, rumours were swirling online about who would be taking on the directorial duties.
Turns out, the rumours were right on the money, because it was confirmed back in July by Disney’s Kevin Feige himself that Jake Schreier will be helming the movie.
In case you're not familiar with Schreier's work, he's directed a few bangers here and there. Robot & Frank back in 2012, Paper Towns in 2015, the TV series Beef in 2023, and... oh yeah, this little independent film you might have heard of called Thunderbolts*.

In an interview with Empire published yesterday, Schreier revealed that production on X-Men, which currently doesn’t have a release date, has already entered its first phase.
Over on DiscussingFilm’s Tweet detailing the news, fans are getting themselves worked up, because they’re confident that Schreier can deliver something incredible following his work on Thunderbolts*.
“If he’s carrying over the emotional weight and character focus from Thunderbolts, we might finally get an X-Men film that balances heart and spectacle,” commented user @ItsCine_AIX.
“Thunderbolts being his resume to take the reins for the most important Marvel project coming in the last 10 years… I am excited,” replied user @SCRIZZLLEE.

“Thrilled to hear Jake Schreier is diving into the X-Men reboot!” commented user @RapperLuGhz.
“So I’m stoked to see how he reimagines the mutants. Excited for what’s coming!”
Admittedly, yeah, I’m right there with them on this one.
Thunderbolts* is probably easily my favourite MCU film of the last few years– although, that’s not really saying much considering the competition.

Still, if Schreier can bring the same dysfunctional family energy to X-Men, then I think we might be in for something special.
